Directed and shot under the creative direction of Gustaf Grafeth of Futura, this campaign film marked the relaunch of Nike’s Shapa Centre in Soweto. The film showcases the centre’s skate park, design facilities and dance studio through the people bringing these spaces to life. Featuring female skate collective Girls Skate, design duo Unknown Projects, who upcycle old clothing into new garments, and dancer Tarryn TNT, founder of a dance studio in Eldorado Park, the project celebrates the local talent, creative communities and youth culture at the heart of Shapa.

A collaboration between UK-based music platform Boiler Room and Ballantine’s, the project documented the genre’s growing influence and its journey from local scenes to a global audience.

Inspired by the expressive title sequences of Blaxploitation cinema, the film uses a bold, retro-cinematic visual language to connect the collaboration’s musical identity with the visual codes of Black popular culture.
